On Valentine’s Day 2020, as the COVID-19 pandemic was looming, I spent my first Valentine’s Day with the man who would later become my husband. It was a beautiful day, and seeing this hawk filled me with hope for the future.

This gorgeous preserve, nestled in the middle of an urban space, so it was a moment of unexpected beauty and hope—a reminder of nature’s resilience and the magic that can appear even in the most unlikely places.
